Ambassador: N Stream 2 certification is for Germany to work out

MOSCOW, Oct 19 (PRIME) -- The ball lies in Germany’s court ion the issue of certification of the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline, Russian ambassador to the E.U. Vladimir Chizhov said in a news conference on Tuesday.

“It is built. The first pipe was filled with gas already. Now certification is left. I assume that the ball is in the court of the German regulator now. The procedure should take four months. The deadline is January 8,” he said.

“Whether they could or would want to do that earlier, they will be welcome. If they finish it earlier, it will be better for ultimate consumers,” he said.

Certification of Nord Stream 2 AG as an independent operator will ensure that the Nord Stream 2 project complies with the E.U. Gas Directive. First, the Federal Network Agency of Germany is to draft a ruling, and then the European Commission is to revise it.
